The following information will be updated if more details become available.

Militants armed with machine guns have burst into the offices of the newspapers Donbas and Vecherny Donbas, abducted the chief editors and are stopping the staff from working

At around midday on June 2 terrorists armed with machine guns burst into the building housing the newspaper Donbas and a number of other media publications.

Donbas News has put together more information from the accounts of witnesses. They report that a Hyundai crossover and Bohdan bus arrived at around midday. Around 10 militants, apparently from the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic and armed with machine guns, got out and went to the fifth and ten floor of the building, obviously knowing where their targets’ offices were located.

Judging by the person’s appearance and accent, Donbas News reports, they were led by a Chechen.

He and the others were, however, supposedly from the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic which they said did not like the way the newspaper Donbas covers events in the region.

As well as preventing both editorial offices from continuing their work, the terrorists abducted the Chief Editors of Donbas, Alexander Brizh, and of Vecherny Donbas [Evening Donbas, a newspaper owned by billionaire Renat Akhmetov].

Donbas is one of the largest and most well-known newspapers in the Donetsk region.

The building is owned by the publishing house Donechchyna and contains the editorial offices of Donbas, Vecherny Donbas and Argumenty Nedeli.   The Institute for Mass Information reports that the gunmen turned up at the publishing company as well, and said that they were taking it “under their guard”.
