Ex-Aidar human rights activist Yury Hukov to be released

The court of appeal allowed the application made by Hukov’s lawyer Viktor Deineka and endorsed by the Head of the Kharkiv Human Rights Group Yevhen Zakharov to release Hukov on his guarantee.

Yury Hukov, journalist, human rights activist and former Aidar Battalion volunteer is to be released from custody.  On Aug 5, the Kyiv Court of Appeal revoked the original detention order issued by Pechersky District Court judge Oksana Tsarevych who gained notoriety for her active part in politically motivated prosecutions under the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych. 

The court of appeal allowed the application made by Hukov’s lawyer Viktor Deineka and endorsed by the Head of the Kharkiv Human Rights Group Yevhen Zakharov to release Hukov on his guarantee. 

As reported, Yury Hukov has worked for the Kharkiv Human Rights Group since September 2014.  He has also been actively involved in efforts to free hostages held by the Kremlin-backed militants in the Luhansk oblast.
