The victims of the brutal suppression of a peaceful demonstration must not be forgotten

On 12 May 2006 from 12.30 to 15.00 outside the Uzbekistan Embassy (Kyiv, Volodymyrska, 16) Amnesty International in Ukraine, together with the Initiative Group “Without borders” and the Society of Uzbek Political Refugees in Ukraine are planning an action in memory: the Andijon Massacre: will we stay silent, or refuse to forget?

On the eve of the first anniversary of the mass shooting of peaceful demonstrators protesting in the Uzbekistan city of Andijon, non-governmental organizations and political refugees from Uzbekistan will hold a series of protest actions on 12 and 13 May 2006 in various cities and countries. Their aim is to draw the attention of the international community to the tragic events in Andijon as a result of which more than 1000 civilians were killed, to demand that those responsible be punished, that all political prisoners in Uzbekistan be released and that an independent investigation be held.

It is time to stop rewriting history and trying to hide the truth about the Andijon Massacre!

Enough of punishing the innocent, persecuting human rights activists and independent journalists, as well as closing down non-governmental organizations!

Enough of trying to force the return of all those who managed to flee from persecution!

Please join our action.  Stop and don’t look away, your attention is important!
