The ex-candidate in the Belarusian presidential elections, sentenced to 5.5 years imprisonment for his part in a peaceful demonstration on 25 March, is protesting against the lawlessness of the Lukashenko regime

Kazulin’s intention to go on an indefinite hunger strike was part of an address to the Belarusian people which he passed to his family from the SIZO [pre-trial detention centre] where he is being held. Mr Kazulin said that this was an act of protest by which he wished to draw attention to “the lawlessness under the illegitimate president Aleksandr Lukashenko”.

Aleksandr Kazulin was today sent to the penal colony at Vitebsk where he is to serve five and a half years deprivation of liberty for organizing a protest action in Minsk after the presidential elections in March of this year.
