The European Court of Human Rights suspends deportation of Rustam Muminov from Russia to Uzbekistan
The court ruling to extradite him came despite a previous call for his extradition having been turned down, as well as the likelihood of his facing torture if returned
Uzbekistan national Rustam Muminov was detained on 17 October in Moscow as not having the necessary registration. The Court ruled to deport him to Uzbekistan despite the fact that the Russian Prosecutor General had previously refused to extradite him.
The Uzbekistan authorities accuse Muminov of extremism. Human rights activists expressed concern that in Uzbekistan he could be subjected to torture.
