Belarusian Helsinki Committee again under threat
The application to close the Helsinki Committee came from the Belarusian Ministry of Justice.
The Belarusian authorities claim that the human rights group has not paid state taxes to the sum of 80 thousand dollars on financial aid received from abroad.
The Belarusian Helsinki Committee had received assistance under the European Union TASIS programme which, according to a Belarusian government decision, is not subject to tax.
The first court hearing on the closure of the human rights organization is to begin on 13 November. On Wednesday 1 November the Minsk Economic Court ruled to confiscate the Committees property.
