Two months ago, Vorobyova publicly stated that the newspaper was experiencing pressure from the Kyiv City State Administration and that they had been told to present material for checking.

Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky has signed instructions on dismissing the Chief Editor of “Vechirny Kyiv” [“Evening Kyiv”] Ludmila Vorobyova.

Kyiv City Council Deputy from the BYuT faction, Oleksandr Brihynets, informed Ukrainska Pravda of this on Friday 22 December.

He said that the day before Vorobyova had held another conference, together with the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee Andriy Chervenko on the situation in the newspaper.

As reported (cf. links below) around two months ago, Vorobyova publicly stated that the newspaper was experiencing pressure from the Kyiv City State Administration and that they had been told to present material for checking.

According to Brihynets’ information, Vorobyova will be replaced by a former employee of the newspaper, Svitlana Synyakova, who has apparently worked in cooperation with the Kyiv Council Press Service.

Journalists from the newspaper and the public have called on the Kyiv City Council to sign an agreement on non-intervention in editorial policy, however no agreement has yet been signed.
