IOM experts say that these countries pay too little attention to combating organized crime and corruption resulting in this slave trade.
According to their estimates, these post-Soviet countries, together with Rumania and Bulgaria, each year “sell” at least 225 thousand slaves. These figures do not correspond with official statistics. In the last few days, the Ukrainian Department for fighting crime stated that over the last year they had uncovered 376 crimes connected with human trafficking.
