The Ukrainian Security Service [SBU] has created a special working group to study and then make public archival documents on the activities of the OUN [Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists] and UPA [Ukrainian Resistance Army] and well-known figures of the Ukrainian liberation movement.  The group was formed at a roundtable on 19 December in implementation of a Presidential Decree.

As well as representatives of the SBU, it includes well-known historians from the Institute for National Remembrance, the History Institute of the Ukrainian Academy of Science, the State Archive Committee, “Memorial” and the Stepan Bandera National Revival Centre.

Emphasis was placed on the importance of arranging access by Ukrainian investigators to archives in other countries (the USA, Britain, Germany, Russia, Poland) containing material regarding the activities of OUN and UPA.

It was also suggested that a joint publishing project be undertaken with Yad Vashem in Israel.  This would publish documents about Jews in the Second World War, in the security services from Cheka to KGB between 1917 and 1991, and in UPA.

The roundtable participants supported the suggestion put by SBU to introduce regular public hearings on historical issues in SBU with the participation of historians and journalist.
