Daily Mail apologises for false Ukrainian Hitler doll report

24.05.2008

The Daily Mail has issued a correction of their article published on 23 April 2008 “The Adolf Hitler doll which comes with a change of clothes - and a spare head with a kind face”.

The apology, posted here,   http://dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1021570/Adolf-Hitler-Doll.html

which they have agreed to keep on their site for at least a week reads:

On 23 April, we published an agency report  that an Adolf Hitler doll had gone on sale in the Ukraine.

We have been asked to point out that this doll was not widely available, was in fact manufactured in Taiwan, and that there are no plans for expansion of the range.

We apologise for any offence caused.

We are glad that the Daily Mail recognized the need to correct an article which as we demonstrated on many occasions was shockingly inaccurate and misleading.

We hope that such regrettable lapses will not reoccur and that all media outlets will endeavour to check information sources and ensure that they quote original sources and where these are in an foreign language, make entirely certain that they are not distorting an original text.

The BBC correction is, as far as we know, permanently at:

and the Deutsche Welle statement and interview with Yevhen Minko can be read at:
