Kyiv police alleged to have beaten protesters

The civic organization “Foundation for Regional Initiatives” asserts that police officers were brutal in their treatment of demonstrators protesting against the recent increase in the price of public transport.  They allege that the police were excessively rough in the way that they detained peaceful protesters, passers-by and journalists.  In a statement which they address to the Minister of Internal Affairs Yury Lutsenko they speak of several protesters being brutally beaten and one young man being pulled by the hair, kicked and beaten with batons.

The Foundation demands an explanation and official investigation with those responsible being punished in accordance with the law.
