Children should be able to apply to the UN for assistance
16.03.2009
Civic organizations in Ukraine are hoping that the country will take part in drawing up a special UN Protocol on appeals from children to the UN Committee. A request to this effect has already been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
As reported here already, many civic groups believe that Ukrainian courts do little to safeguard childrens rights. Hence this initiative which, as Oksana Moskalenko form the “Ukrainian Womens Consortium” explains, would mean that children could directly, or via a representative, approach the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child over violations of their rights if courts in the country could not help.
