VII International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival Docudays.UA
Docudays.UA, with an exciting range of documentary films from many countries will take place in Kyiv from 26 March to 2 April at the House of Cinema (6, Saksanska St).
This year’s festival will open with a favourite from a number of international film festivals – the film “Rabbit à la Berlin / Mauerhase (Poland, Germany, 2009). This work by Bartek Konopka is “the untold story about wild rabbits which lived between the Berlin Walls. For 28 years Death Zone was their safest home. Full of grass, no predators, guards protecting them from human disturbance. Shut away, yet happy. Then one day the wall fell down and the rabbits had to abandon their comfortable ways. “They are still learning how to live in the free world, same as we – the citizens of Eastern Europe”. The film was nominated for an Oscar in the short documentary film category.

As always there are two panels of judges: one judging films on their professional merits, the second from their presentation of human rights issues. Since 2009 there has also been a student jury.
During the Festival week well-known documentary filmmakers will be holding master classes and training seminars. It will be possible to view the films in a special video room.
There will also be a range of human rights focused events generally timed to coincide with the showings of particular films.
Docudays.ua is a unique international festival of documentary films on human rights which has been held in Ukraine since 2003. The topics covered range from extreme stories of people living in conditions of war or disaster, to gender equality, discrimination, violation of the rights of the child or of people with disabilities. Particular attention is given to the stories of people who have overcome hardships, and succeeded in protecting their rights.
All events and film showings are free of charge.
