Mr Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu was responding to an appeal from “Zeleny Front” [“Green Front”] regarding the illegal tree-felling and construction work in Gorky Park and behaviour of the Kharkiv authorities

The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Mr Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, has responded to an appeal from “Zeleny Front” [“Green Front”] regarding the illegal tree-felling and construction work in Gorky Park and behaviour of the Kharkiv authorities. While saying that he cannot make any statement about the decision taken in April 2010 to award Kharkiv the European Prize, “since the alleged facts deserve the highest attention on my part, I will raise the question during my meeting with the Kharkiv authorities.”

Members of Zeleny Front wrote to PACE giving a detailed account of the situation and suggesting that the prize which Mr Çavuşoğlu is due to present during his visit was inappropriate for a city “whose authorities carry out an anti-democratic and anti-European policy”.
