OSCE Conference criticizes Ukraine for infringing believers’ rights
In their report to the OSCE Conference taking place in Warsaw from 30 September to 8 October, the US Delegation have criticized the Ukrainian authorities for creating obstructions or bans on movement and peaceful protests. As an example, the representative of the US State Department, Thomas Melia mentioned the obstruction of believers from the Orthodox Church under the Kyiv Patriarchate trying to reach Kyiv for ceremonies to mark the Festival of the Baptism of Kyiv-Rus on 28 July 2010. Thomas Melia is reported as having said that this was all reminiscent of the period before the Orange Revolution. In his report he stressed that “over the last months Ukraine has stopped observing OSCE standards on freedom of assembly and freedom of movement”.
