Prominent journalist not admitted to Kyiv City Council session

15.07.2011    source: www.telekritika.ua

Kyiv City Council officials appear incapable of understanding that accreditation is a system of registration, not of permits. Journalist and Head of the Journalist Investigation Bureau Svidomo, Yegor Sobolyev has been asked to provide additional documents in order to receive accreditation for Council sessions. These are documents not envisaged by the Law on Information.

Article 26 § 2 of this Law makes it clear that accreditation of journalists and other media workers is not something one may or may not be granted, but is on the basis of providing the relevant information, proof of identity and professional status.

Yegor Sobolyev has also been told to provide a certificate from his place of work with an original stamp.
