Moscow’s Basmanny District Court has allowed an application from the investigator and placed Alexandra Dukhanina under house arrest. She is accused of “throwing stones and bottles at police officers Zelyanin and Sutormin” during the protests against Putin’s third presidential term on Bolotnaya Square on 6 May.  The Prosecutor says that the police have identified Alexandra, however she denies throwing anything.  If convicted, she could face up to 5 years imprisonment.

Alexandra, a student and civic activist, was arrested on Sunday evening.  Earlier two other people were arrested over the confrontation on Bolotnay Square – Andrei Barabanov, who is unemployed, and Maxim Luzyanin, a businessman with a previous conviction. The investigators are claiming that that two men broke through the police cordon and kicked and hit out at police officers, using “asphyxiation techniques”.
