The Media Law Institute has lodged a cassation appeal over the ban imposed on the Stop Censorship movement’s plan to hold a peaceful gathering near the President’s controversial residence at Mezhyhirya.

As reported, on 6 June 2012 for the second year running a court banned a totally peaceful gathering by Stop Censorship in the village of Novi Petrivtsi near the President’s reputedly sumptuous residence at Mezhyhirya wa

The Kyv District Administrative Court banned the action planned for Journalist Day between 8.30 and 10.00.

Stop Censorship was planning to present “Kyiv. Map of Corruption”, a map for tourists highlighting places linked with high-profile corruption investigations.  Since Mezhyhirya, the President’s residence which he has only shown a part of to carefully selected journalists is on the map, the idea was to present it near Mezhyhirya.  This was thwarted by the court,   The respondent in the application for the ban was coordinator of Stop Censorship Artem Sokolenko who is being assisted by the Media Law Institute.

The Court of Appeal upheld the original court ban, with this now being appealed at cassation level.
