Conflicting reports over another death of a detainee

28-year-old Roman Valetov died on 3 July after being detained in the Donetsk SIZO [remand prison].  His relatives assert that he was beaten and point to numerous injuries and bruises.   The State Penitentiary Service asserts that he injured himself following spasms similar to an epilepsy attack.  The reports since the media reported his family’s allegations have been fairly contradictory.  The Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office confirms that the family’s allegations have been recorded, and that they have 30 days to carry out a check.

Roman Valetov’s relatives assert that he was beaten and point to numerous injuries and bruises.   His mother has shown photos of her son’s body and says that he couldn’t have fallen and received the injuries visible, that they are clearly signs of beating. She says that when they came to the morgue, his body was covered in bruises.

The forensic examination states that the cause of death was an acute  ischemic heart disorder.  His family is outraged and says that Roman did not have any heart disease or epilepsy.
