Prosecutor in Tymoshenko trial gets major promotion

25.03.2013
Just weeks after Judge Rodion Kireyev, who sentenced Yulia Tymoshenko to 7 years imprisonment in 2011 became Acting Deputy Head of the Pechersky District Court, Lilia Frolova, one of the prosecution team, has become a Deputy Prosecutor General

The Prosecutor General’s site reports that Lilia Frolova has been appointed one of Viktor Pshonka’s Deputy Prosecutor Generals.  In presenting her to the team, the Prosecutor General said that her particular areas of work would be international-legal; access to public information and other subjects of Prosecutor’s overseeing role. She would also, together with the other deputies, be engaged in organizing work regarding the reform of criminal justice and the Prosecutor’s offices.

Perhaps not surprisingly, in describing Frolova’s 14 years experience, Pshonka did not mention the case which made her so very well-known.

Lilia Frolova was one of the three prosecutors in the trial of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and source of a number of widely publicized statements.  Dzerkalo Tyzhnya, for example, quoted her in December 2011 claiming that Tymoshenko was manipulating public opinion and demanding that she be brought to court lying down.

Frolova has also been presenting the prosecution side in the accusations against Yulia Tymoshenko of ordering the killing in 1996 of Donetsk businessman and MP Eugene Shcherban.

As reported here, at least one other prominent figure instrumental in the internationally condemned imprisonment of Yulia Tymoshenko has recently been promoted. The recent promotion of Rodion Kireyev to the post of acting Deputy Head of the Pechersky District Court in Kyiv came less than 18 months after he sentenced Tymoshenko to 7 years imprisonment over the 2009 gas accords with Russia.
