Businessman Bohdan Kalynyak from Kolomiya has died of hypothermia after two months on Maidan, and shortly after coming under attack when Berkut used a water cannon in temperatures well below zero. In the latest of a number of cabinet of ministers decrees, on Jan 28 a new decree was issued regarding the use of water cannons. This removes all temperature restrictions on the use of such water cannons.
The Mayor of Kolomiya, Ihor Slyuzar has told Hromadskie.tv that Bohdan Kalynyak had spent 2 months on Maidan Nezalezhnosti [EuroMaidan] with only short, 4-day breaks.
Slyuzar says that the deceased had never suffered from any chronic illnesses. “He was a successful businessman and he went to Maidan only on ideological grounds. Over the last weeks he was indeed on Maidan and was similar unable to look after himself. The Mayor was however unable to confirm that the deceased was hit by the stream of water used in freezing temperatures to disperse activists.
He confirms that Mr Kalynyak died of hyperthermia but the results of the medical assessment have yet to be issued.
