Strange contact from abducted journalist

Volyn Post reports that its journalist, Serhiy Shapoval contacted them briefly on Tuesday where he is clearly being held hostage by the pro-Russian militants

Volyn Post reports that its journalist, Serhiy Shapoval contacted them briefly on Tuesday.  He said that he was in Slovyansk  but for unnamed reasons could not leave.  As reported, Shapoval disappeared on April 26.  He had told his family that he was heading for Slovyansk.

He also said that he had prepared a report on the situation in Slovyansk and was ready to pass it to the paper, however the latter has yet to receive anything.

The call was very short and then contact was lost, however Shapoval was, apparently, also able to briefly contact his sister and wife.

The newspaper comments that it has every reason to believe that their colleague is being held in Slovyansk against his will.

He is by no means the only hostage of the pro-Russian militants who have seized control in Slovyansk.  Other journalists and the OSCE military observers being held by the terrorists have spoken on camera with doubts inevitable that they were speaking under duress.
