war crimes in Ukraine

The Tribunal for Putin (T4P) global initiative was set up in response to the all-out war launched by Russia against Ukraine in February 2022.

Lviv residents bring 700 helmets from Poland – on foot

The helmets are urgently needed by soldiers in the east of Ukraine, but EU legislation prohibits the export of military technology and equipment, so helmets bought in Poland, an EU country, needed to be carried through the pedestrian border crossing

Over the weekend people from Lviv and the oblast carried 700 helmets across the Polish-Ukrainian border.  The helmets are urgently needed by soldiers and police taking part in the anti-terrorist operation in the east of Ukraine, but EU legislation prohibits the export of military technology and equipment, so helmets bought in Poland, an EU country, needed to be carried through the pedestrian border crossing.

Over 300 people responded to a call for help circulated through social networks. They passed through the border crossing on foot and returned with the helmets, presented as their own property.

One of the coordinators of the action and EuroMaidan self-defence activist Andrian Klishch told Radio Svoboda that all 694 helmets were being given to soldiers going to the east of Ukraine.  Each helmet in Poland costs 60 EUR, cheaper than in Ukraine. Klishch did, unfortunately, mention that 6 helmets went astray and were presumably stolen.

The money for the helmets was donated, and Lviv businesspeople met the expenses for the coaches on which people travelled to the Medyka-Shegyni Pedestrian Border Crossing.

If a new stock of helmets and bullet-proof vests can be bought before the weekend, Lviv oblast residents who live within the requisite zone, or have Schengen visa, etc, will also be asked to help.
