Exposed: Russian TV totally distorts Radio Svoboda video footage

21.06.2014

Radio Svoboda, which regularly exposes Russian media lies and fakes, reports that that TV Rossiya 24 has used two of the video reports produced by Radio Svoboda correspondents from an area of military action, while grossly distorting its content.

In one, the Radio Svoboda correspondent is near the village of Skhidne on the outskirts of Slovyansk and explains that over the last month the militants have been shooting at a Ukrainian military checkpoint using machine guns and mine throwers. The military have opened fire in return, using recently purchased tanks.  The Ukrainian military person interviewed states that civilians left the village 2-3 weeks ago.

Rossiya 24, however, uses the Radio Svoboda video footage but claims that the Ukrainian military are carefully aiming and deliberately firing at civilians.

In the other case, where an individual National Guard soldier complained about the Kyiv authorities, the Russian channel tried to make a virtual revolt by the National Guard out of it.  In their report entitled “Fighters of the National Guard threaten to march on Kyiv”, they claim that the fighters have posted an appeal to President Petro Poroshenko on the Internet in which they supposedly assert that they are being forced to carry out military activities in the south-east, and that the government doesn’t care about its own army.  The single soldier complained “about a lack of proper military planning” and “pleaded with the government to provide more professional support for Ukrainian military operations”.
