Ternopil activist Volodymyr Khanas brutally beaten
Our colleague, Volodymyr Khanas, who has been active in the EuroMaidan demonstrations, is in hospital with head injuries after being brutally beaten in his native Ternopil. He was assaulted after signing an ultimatum to the government from journalists following the violent dispersal of the peaceful protest on Maidan Nezalezhnosti on Saturday morning. Volodymyr is the head of the Ternopil Men’s Adaptation Centre and a correspondent for "Maidan Monitoring".
No further details of the attack are available as yet, but he has reported it to the police. This could be coincidence but seems unlikely. The authorities have unleashed a spiral of violence and lawlessness, with those carrying out such attacks feeling confident of their impunity.
Very best wishes to Volodymyr for a speedy recovery.
