In support of asylum seekers: Protest Action and Street Performance “Chronology of Lies”

28 April from 15.00 to 17.00 near the President’s Secretariat (Kyiv, Bankova Street, 11)

On Friday, 28 April Amnesty International in Ukraine and the Initiative Group “Without borders” will hold a protest action and street performance as part of the campaign for justice in relation to refugees and asylum seekers.

The protest action is aimed at drawing the attention of the President of Ukraine and of the public to the fact that there has still been no proper investigation into the shameful deportation from Ukraine of 11 Uzbek nationals[1] and that those responsible have not been brought to answer. . For the third month now, various state bodies clamber to accuse one another of infringements of procedure and deny any responsibility for the ill deed, “saying they didn’t know”, while 11 people unable to defend themselves are labelled “terrorists”. “fighters”, and accused of “religious extremists”, while human rights activists are said to be “abetting terrorists”.

During the demonstration, the organizers will show a dramatized chronological account of the development of events after the deportation.

The campaign’s demands are clear:

that those responsible answer for their actions in deporting the Uzbeks and that they be dismissed from their posts to ensure that such shameful actions are not repeated;

public acknowledgement that Ukraine violated domestic legislation and international commitments;

that the President of Ukraine apologizes to those deported and to their families;

that a guarantee Is provided that there will be no repeat of such deportations in the future.
