Donetsk CVU appeals to journalists

The Donetsk Regional Branch of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine has issued an official appeal to journalists and the media following the latest example of entirely erroneous information supposedly emanating from the CVU

The Donetsk Regional Branch of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine [CVU] has issued an official appeal to journalists and the media.  It comments that as the elections approach the campaign is becoming more and more fast-moving and fraught with conflict. In such conditions, it says, the media can play a vital role in ensuring objectivity of information.

CVU asks the media, as partners over many years, to be balanced and scrupulous in checking and covering events. There have, it says, been many examples where information was not properly analyzed before being circulated.

As an example they cite the information which appeared in both printed and electronic media on 20 October about the election situation in electoral district No. 47.  This had supposedly been confirmed by a representative of the Donetsk Regional Branch of CVU and claimed that CVU had recorded one thousand infringements of electoral legislation in No. 47.  CVU stresses that all infringements are recorded in official reports, and that it did not  produce information about the number of infringements at No. 47
