Belarusian journalist asks for political asylum in Ukraine

A Belarusian journalist and former Editor of the Volkovysk  “Local Newspaper”, Andrei Shantarovich has applied to the department on nationalities and migration of the Kharkiv Region State Administration for political asylum.

According to the journalist, persecution by the regime was connected with the journalist investigation which he undertook and published into corruption of a number of high-ranking officials of the country.

Shantarovich founded the “Local Newspaper” in 2001, and was its chief editor, which was issued in Volkovysk with a print run of around 8 thousand issues. The journalist state that his application had been accepted in the Kharkiv Region State Administration
