New multi-media course on human rights in Lviv schools

02.09.2006 |

Work began this July on a special multi-media course “Human Rights”, to be created by the Charitable Foundation “Maibuttya” together with the information and methodology education centre in Lviv and the Classical Lyceum attached to the Lviv Ivan Franko National University. The project is to be run within the framework of a grant from UN Development Program.

The project’s aim is to develop innovative methods of teaching in the area of legal education and introduce the resulting course on human rights into the school curriculum.

The use of multi-media material will help in making information which is otherwise difficult for children to understand more vivid and accessible. Teachers’ notes will also be provided.

The project will involve careful presentation of information and graphic accompanying material.

A roundtable discussion “Using multi-media technology in teaching law studies” is also planned, with the participation of teachers of law studies from Lviv and specialists from the city and regional departments of education.  There will in addition be experimental open lessons from the multi-media course in 6 general education schools in each district of Lviv, and in three lyceums.

6 creative workshops will be run following on from the experimental lessons for teachers of law in six districts on the topic “Particular features of using and introducing the multi-media course “Human Rights” in order to demonstrate the advantages of multi-media elements in teaching.

The completion of the project is planned for February 2007, with the distribution of the resulting multi-media course to schools and lyceums in Lviv. It is expected that the new special course will be fully introduced in Lviv schools for the next academic year.

We anticipate further cooperation providing information and consultation with school teachers on working with the course and also responding to teachers’ feedback, proposed changes or supplementary material.
