Meetings in memory of Anna Politkovskaya

All of those who wish to honour the memory of Anna Politkovskaya are asked at 9 o’clock this evening to turn off the lights in their flats and to burn a candle in their window.

On Sunday 15 October, the ninth day* since the death of Anna Politkovskaya, meetings are being held in several Russian cities.  

Human rights defenders, journalists and members of democratic parties have organized meetings and pickets.

All of those who wish to honour the memory of Anna Politkovskaya are asked at 9 o’clock this evening to turn off  the lights in their flats and to light a candle in their window.

Anna Politkovskaya was murdered on 7 October in the lift of her block of flats.

 

*  in the Orthodox Church people normally gather, often at the grave of a person who has died, on the ninth day, and then the fortieth day.(translator’s note)
