A demonstration in honour of Anna Politkovskaya in Nazran (Ingushetia) was dispersed with the use of force by police yesterday, 16 October. A number of human rights activists were detained, including members of the Red Cross and the human rights centre “Memorial”.
At the same time in Grozny around 50 activists from human rights organizations and journalists gathered also to remember the murdered journalist.
“Bullets could stop the journalist Politkovskaya, but they are powerless to stop what she worked for. Human rights organizations will be stopped until the truth about the violations of human rights in our republic are made known”, human rights activist Shamil Tangiev promised.
