Constitutional Court to answer in court
Lawyer from the Media Law Institute Tetyana Rodionova has lodged an administrative appeal with the Kyiv Appeal Court against the Constitutional Court over the latters refusal to provide a response to a formal request for information.
The lawyer had asked what media outlets the Constitutional Court was founder or co-founder of, and what amount had been allowed for in the Courts budget for 2005 to finance such outlets.
The Constitutional Court on 4 April refused to provide the information requested. The grounds given in their notification were that the Court did not consider nor respond to formal requests for information.
In Rodionovas opinion, the refusal by the Constitutional Court to provide information is unlawful since the Law “On information” applies to all bodies of state power, this including the Constitutional Court.
The Lawyer is demanding that the Constitutional Court provide the information she sought and pay moral compensation.
She is represented in court by Andriy Nechyporenko and the law firm “Nataliya Subota and Partners”.
