Council of Europe reminds Yushchenko of his promise
In an interview with UNIAN, the Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis has said that the CEs greatest disappointment is over the lack of real progress in solving the murder of Ukrainian journalist Georgy Gongadze.
“Two years have already passed since the new people in the Ukrainian government promised us a quick conclusion to the investigation, yet there are still no results”, Terry Davis stated.
“I would say that this is the greatest disappointment, and I can see that many people in Ukraine share our concern”.
The Secretary General also stressed that the drawn-out investigation into the case was seriously damaging Ukraines reputation abroad.
At the beginning of 2005, speaking before the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Ukraines President Yushchenko promised that the new Ukrainian regime would make every effort to complete the investigation into Georgy Gongadzes killing as soon as possible.
