Training seminar in Kharkiv for lawyers and judges on applying judgments of the European Court of Human Rights

The Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group ran a training seminar in Kharkiv from 19-21 January  for lawyers and judges on applying judgments of the European Court of Human Rights concerning Articles 3 and 5 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in Ukrainian court practice.

Lawyers and judges were present from Kharkiv, Kyiv, Bila Tserkov, Irlen, Sevastopol, Simferopol and Lviv. The seminars were run by Oleksiy Hotsul, deputy head of the Secretariat of the Government Representative on the European Court of Human Rights, Inna Hrebenyuk, chief consultant for the Central Scientific Expert Department of the Verkhovna Rada, Arkady Bushchenko, lawyer and  KHPG legal expert and Oleksandr Lisovy, court lawyer and honoured lawyer of the Crimea.

Most of those present already had experience in lodging applications with the European Court and applying the Court’s case law in Ukrainian courts. Most of the session was therefore devoted to discussing problems which most often arise in our courts. Specific cases now underway were considered.
