Belarusians to have their use of the Internet restricted
Latest encroachment on freedom in Belarus: those using Internet cafes will have the sites they visited recorded, with this information available on demand by the security and enforcement agencies
The Belarusian government has introduced new rules for using the world-wide net. All users of Belarusian Internet cafes from now on will have to register, and the owner of the café, or a person with the owners authority, will keep an electronic log of the websites which each person used.
This data will be stored for at least a year, and the information kept in the logbooks can be viewed by officers of state security, law enforcement officers and state control bodies.
In computer clubs and Internet cafes programs are banned which promote violence, cruelty or pornography, or which circulate information prohibited by legislation.
