A sum of over 9,270 million UH was paid in connection with such judgments awarding compensation for moral and material damages in 2006

This figure was given by the Government’s Representative on European Court of Human Rights affairs, Yury Zaitsev during a conference on the enforcement of rulings issued by domestic courts in Ukraine. The conference was held on 21 February at the suggestion of the Government’s Representative’s Secretariat.

Yury Zaitsev pointed out the number of applications being lodged with the Court in Strasbourg has been increasing each year.

In 2006 the Ministry of Justice, which is responsible for paying awarded costs out of the relevant State programme, received 165 judgments from the European Court requiring action. A sum of over 9,270 million UH was paid in connection with these judgments in compensation for moral and material damages.

All these costs have been paid in full and on time.
