A British Foreign Secretary who excuses Russia’s invasion of Crimea?
14.07.2016
The new UK Prime Minister doubtless had her reasons for giving leading Brexit campaigner Boris Johnson a cabinet post. Making him Foreign Secretary, however, defies any comprehension. It is especially difficult not to view this as an affront to all those currently facing persecution in Russian-occupied Crimea given his extraordinary attempt to blame Russia’s aggression against Ukraine on the EU

Kremlin-loyal ‘observers’ arrive to rubberstamp Donbas ‘primaries’ in breach of Minsk Accord
14.07.2016

To prevent further human suffering in the east of Ukraine, the rule of law has to be re-established
14.07.2016
According to Nils Muižnieks, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, "the conflict in the east of Ukraine remains the cause of enormous human suffering and loss of life. It is high time to put an end to it and ensure the effective prosecution and sanctioning of those responsible for human rights violations”
Calls on Russia to #FreeSentsov as renowned Crimean filmmaker turns 40
13.07.2016
Oleg Sentsov, the Ukrainian filmmaker held for over two years in Russian prisons, is turning 40 on July 13. The Kremlin has sent him and Oleksandr Kolchenko as far from Moscow and publicity as possible. It is vital we demonstrate that no distance will be enough and make greetings to the men and demands for their release resound
Memorial demands Russia release Ukrainian Maidan Activist after surreal trial
13.07.2016
The renowned rights group has demolished the charges against 22-year-old Andriy Kolomiyets, but also points out that the main indictment is grotesque since a court under Russian law has no jurisdiction over events between Ukrainian nationals in Ukraine.
Russian court rejects Navalny slander lawsuit over state TV ’spy’ claims
13.07.2016
The verdict is in: accusing someone on Russian state television of being a Western spy with no evidence to substantiate the claim does not constitute slander -- at least if that someone is opposition leader Aleksei Navalny.
Pro-Kremlin Far-right Bulgarian Party Used in Latest Ukrainian ‘Separatism’ Fake
12.07.2016
If you believe the media, ‘Bulgaria’ has endorsed the demand of local Ukrainian Bulgarians and called on Ukraine to create a Bulgarian autonomy. This comes just weeks after Romanians were also reported to be demanding autonomy. Ukraine, in short, is falling apart, and Crimea and Donbas were just the beginning.
Ukrainian ATO fighter given suspended sentence for violent rape of schoolgirl
12.07.2016
The Ivankiv District Court in Kyiv oblast court on June 10, 2016 convicted a 24-year-old man of violently raping a 16-year-old girl but decided that the fact of his military service in Donbas constituted an extenuating circumstance. The news came on the same day as an Aidar volunteer battalion fighter, facing very grave charges, was released from custody on the security of a number of MPs

Semena has also been added to the Federal ‘List of Terrorists and Extremists’.

When Abduction Turns to FSB ’Search’ in Russian-occupied Crimea
08.07.2016
Did the FSB arrest Crimean Tatar rights activist Emir-Huseyn Kuku because an attempt to abduct him failed? There are serious grounds for thinking this and for yet again asking why the de facto authorities were so reluctant to launch an investigation into the recent abduction of Crimean Tatar activist Ervin Ibragimov

Divisive & Ill-Timed Renaming of Kyiv Street after Controversial Nationalist Leader
08.07.2016
Kyiv’s City Council voted on July 7 to rename Moskovsky Prospekt Bandera Avenue, after the Ukrainian nationalist leader Stepan Bandera. The move would have always aroused controversy, but the timing could also not have been more insensitive, coming as it does on the eve of the 73rd anniversary of the Volyn Massacre.

Poignant Day of Crimean Resistance
07.07.2016
Ukraine’s government has formally established February 26 as the Day of Crimean Resistance to Russian Aggression. The choice of date is linked with one of the most cynical cases of repression specifically targeting Crimean Tatars that the West has failed to adequately address. The decision was made even more poignantly appropriate by coming on political prisoner Ali Asanov’s 31st birthday, his second in detention.
