Throughout Ukraine today events are taking place in memory of the victims of Holodomor and political repression. At 16.00 a Minute’s Silence will be observed throughout Ukraine. This will be followed by a nationwide action “Light a candle!”

“Such memorials are needed in thousands of Ukrainian villages. It is our shared duty to remember what happened to our grandparents and great grandparents”, Viktor Yushchenko affirmed.

The action, which this year focuses on countering violence in the family, traditionally begins on 25 November, International Day against Violence against Women, and continues to International Human Rights Day on 10 December.
