Thousands of people at the third anniversary of Beslan
Three years ago today was for some children in Beslan “First Bell”. They came to school in their best clothes and with flowers for their teachers.
331 people died at Beslan, more than half of them children.
In North Ossetiya today, at the ruins of what was School No. 1 in Beslan, three thousand people gathered, holding candles and flowers. Memorial services began with the ringing of bells.
Photographs of the victims are pin on the walls of the sports hall where the armed terrorists held more than a thousand hostages for three days.
Many questions remain unanswered. Effectively none of those responsible for the disaster, for the use of tanks and other heavy weapons, for the failure to bring in those who could have negotiated with the terrorists, have been brought to justice.
