The Baranovichy District Court has sentenced well-known youth leader Pavel Severinets to 17 days administrative arrest and a fine. He was detained today at the same court after arriving with dozens of people to show support for activist of the Youth Front Yaroslav Gryshchenko who is charged with activities on behalf of an unsanctioned organization.
Pavel Severinets had only just been freed from the Brest pre-trial detention centre where he was held, as reported here, for a presentation of his own book.
The charges today were of resisting the police, organizing an unsanctioned protest and petty hooliganism.
According to the new Code of Administrative Offences, custodial arrest is possible for up to 25 days.
