MIA proposes inter-departmental committee against xenophobia
The Ministry of Internal Affairs is proposing to create an inter-departmental committee aimed at combating racism and xenophobia. It suggests that the committee should include representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the State Committee on Nationalities and Religious Affairs, the Security Service [SBU], the Prosecutor General, the Ministries of Internal Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Education, and of Culture and Tourism, the State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting, other interested ministries and departments, international and civic organizations. The committee would present a comprehensive document on combating racism and xenophobia in Ukraine.
The Ministrys message begins with words about how it shares the concern of representatives of some ethnic groups, international and civic organizations over cases of racist or xenophobic crimes, but asserts that countering these ills goes beyond its powers.
