war crimes in Ukraine
The Tribunal for Putin (T4P) global initiative was set up in response to the all-out war launched by Russia against Ukraine in February 2022.

Russia’s Crimea Bridge Could Collapse Anytime
11.01.2017
Russian President Vladimir Putin has called construction of a bridge between Russia and occupied Crimea a “historic mission”. Putin should pay better heed to historical lessons, since this ‘mission’ is doomed to failure, and by no means only because of sanctions.
USA Today Parrots Kremlin Propaganda on Crimea
06.01.2017
Hopes are high in Russia that its investment in the US elections will pay off in the removal of economic sanctions and acceptance of Russia’s illegal invasion and annexation of Crimea. Since none of the conditions for waiving sanctions have been met, other methods to sell such an option are being applied
Crimean Tatar leader added to Russian List of ‘Terrorists & Extremists’ for Opposing Annexation
02.01.2017
Russia has added Crimean Tatar Mejlis leader Ilmi Umerov to its notoriously long list of so-called ‘Terrorists and Extremists’ for saying, as do all democratic states, that Russia should be made to leave Crimea. With its customary contempt for presumption of innocence, it has also added all 19 Crimean Muslims whom it is holding in custody and charging with unproven involvement in an organization which is legal in Ukraine.
Forgotten ‘Crimean saboteur’ prisoner defended Ukraine during Russian invasion
29.12.2016
Back in 2014 Crimean Tatar Ridvan Suleymanov was among the Ukrainians who held out for over 20 days, refusing to abandon a Ukrainian military unit surrounded by Russian soldiers. Two years later he is in FSB detention, part of a grotesque attempt to accuse Ukraine of ‘sabotage’ and ‘incursions’ on its own territory .
Russia’s terror grip on Crimea tightens with new ruling on 4 Crimean Tatar political prisoners
28.12.2016
On Dec 27, Russia’s Supreme Court allowed the prosecutor’s appeal against Ruslan Zeitullayev’s 7-year sentence (as opposed to the 17-year sentence demanded) and sent the ‘case’ for retrial. The Court rejected the appeals brought by Ferat Saifullayev; Rustem Vaitov and Nuri Primov against their 5-year sentences.
‘Deported’ Crimean Tatar activist on hunger strike too weak to stand
27.12.2016
Nedim Khalilov began his hunger strike on Nov 24, in protest at being forcibly ’deported’ from his homeland 9 months after the Crimean Tatar lodged a law suit against Russian President Vladimir Putin for invading and occupying Crimea.
No investigation into abduction of Crimean Tatar activist, just FSB surveillance of his parents
26.12.2016
Seven months after Ervin Ibragimov’s abduction from near his home in Russian-occupied Crimea, there is nothing to suggest that the de facto authorities are trying to find him. Instead, they have men following the Crimean Tatar activist’s parents. Ervin Ibragimov had reported such surveillance just before he was abducted.
Crimean political prisoners tortured on the way to court in Russian occupied Crimea
23.12.2016
At least one of the Crimean Muslims facing fabricated ‘terrorism’ charges under Russian occupation has reported being tortured and threatened when brought to court hearings and a lawyer reports that FSB special force officers are present and used as a menacing threat when the men are taken to see the investigator.
Russia prepares new criminal charges as Crimean Tatar leader refuses to be silenced
21.12.2016
Russia appears to be concocting yet another criminal prosecution against 59-year-old Crimean Tatar Mejlis leader Ilmi Umerov over statements expressing the same position on Russia’s occupation of Crimea as that set out in resolutions from the UN General Assembly, Council of Europe and all democratic countries
Strasbourg to rule on Russia’s 2nd deportation of Crimea Tatar leader Mustafa Dzhemilev
20.12.2016
Russia’s Supreme Court has upheld the 5-year ban imposed shortly after Russia invaded Crimea preventing Mustafa Dzhemiliev from entering his homeland
UN General Assembly condemns Russia’s occupation of Crimea and rights violations
20.12.2016
As well as openly calling Russia’s behaviour occupation, the General Assembly’s resolution is important in identifying the grave rights violations under Russian occupation and demands the release of all unlawfully held Ukrainian citizens.
Trump is on collision course with international law over Crimea
19.12.2016
If, as US intelligence believes, Russia interfered in the US elections to get Donald Trump elected, it is certainly being rewarded for its efforts and expense
Ukrainian savagely beaten in Russian-occupied Crimea then arrested
19.12.2016
It was not enough that the only person punished after Ihor Movenko was brutally attacked was the Ukrainian himself, not his assailant. Now Movenko has been arrested and beaten, this time by the FSB to force him to ‘confess’ to extremism.
Germany’s Siemens Company accused of scam to bypass Crimean sanctions
16.12.2016
A new twist has been reported in the story of Siemens gas turbines which could be used to deliver the turbines to Russian-occupied Crimea without Germany’s Siemens openly bypassing EU sanctions. A check is urgently needed since the scam suggested would cast a shadow over Siemens and demonstrate serious failings in sanction controls.
Ukrainian hostages savagely tortured for ‘Crimea saboteur confessions’ fight back
15.12.2016
Two Ukrainians seized by Russia’s FSB and accused of a ‘Crimean sabotage’ plot have lodged formal complaints with Russia’s Investigative Committee. Both allege savage forms of torture applied by the FSB to extract ‘confessions’ and demand proper investigations
Closed ‘court’ in Russian-occupied Crimea moves to strip Crimean Tatar leader of his lawyer
15.12.2016
A court in Russian-occupied Crimea has ordered that Nikolai Polozov be interrogated as a witness in the prosecution of Crimean Tatar leader Ilmi Umerov, giving the FSB grounds to demand his removal from the case.
Misleading OSCE Media report ignores Russia’s annexation of Crimea
14.12.2016
An OSCE representative should certainly treat Crimea and areas under the control of Kremlin-backed militants as Ukraine, but ignoring Russia’s culpability for flagrant rights violations leads to serious distortion of the facts. This is just one of the concerns about the report by Dunja Mijatović, the OSCE Representative on Media Freedom.
Russia’s youngest victims in occupied Crimea urgently need support
13.12.2016
A special charitable action took place in Kyiv on Dec 11 to raise money and awareness of the youngest victims of Russia’s mounting repression in occupied Crimea.
Crimean Tatar rights activist placed in psychiatric clinic on eve of Human Rights Day
12.12.2016
Emir-Huseyn Kuku, a human rights activist imprisoned in Russian-occupied Crimea on gravely flawed charges has been placed in a psychiatric clinic. This is purportedly for a ‘psychiatric assessment’, but the lack of any grounds and forced hospitalization make charges of punitive psychiatry in his case and that of five other prisoners arrested with him warranted.
Ukrainian activist arrested on fabricated charges in Russian-occupied Crimea
12.12.2016
Crimean activist Volodymyr Balukh has been arrested by the Russian FSB just 10 days after he hung a plaque on his home in memory of the people killed during Euromaidan.
