Parliamentary committee to approach the Prosecutor General over censorship concerns

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information has adopted a statement regarding the obstruction to the professional activities of journalists and censorship on nationwide television stations. The decision was taken at a meeting on 12 May after members of the Committee considered open letters from journalists of the channels 1+1 and STB, as well as speaking with Oleksiy Mustafin (STB), Natalya Sokolenko (STB) and Serhiy Kudimov (1+1). The Committee plans to submit this statement to the Prosecutor General’s Office, as well as to the President, Verkhovna Rada, Cabinet of Ministers and Human Rights Ombudsperson. The meeting was run by the First Deputy Chair Andriy Shevchenko {BYuT]. The others present were Olena Bondarenko; Yury Stets, Olena Kondratyuk, Oleksandr Abdullin, Viktor Ukolov, Oleksiy Fedun and Mykola Bahrayev. The decision to approach the Prosecutor General’s Office was passed unanimously.
