Kyiv Court of Appeal finds nothing wrong in President’s statement on Holodomor
On 8 December the Kyiv Court of Appeal rejected the appeal lodged by Volodymyr Volosiuk from Khmelnytsky against the ruling of the Pechersky District Court. The latter found nothing wrong with President Yanukovych’s remarks in Strasbourg regarding Holodomor. On 27 April Yanukovych stated that Holodomor had not been an act of genocide.
As reported, Volodymyr Volosiuk lodged a civil suit demanding that the President apologise.
Wednesday’s report was based on information provided by the rightwing party VO Svoboda. It claims that the claimant was scarcely given a charge to put forward his point of view, and the court debate lasted some two minutes.
They claim that the judges rudely interrupted Mr Volosiuk and that their decision also took a mere two minutes in the consulting chamber.
A law was passed by the Verkhovna Rada in 2006 declaring Holodomor 1932-1933 to have been an act of genocide. The bill then got no support from the Communist Party and only two of Yanukovych’s Party of the Regions Deputies voted for it. They were later told not to break party ranks again.
