The Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office sees no grounds for punishing the police officers who arrested human rights activists for taking part in a peaceful picket.  The two men, Oleksy Verentsov and Ihor Tanichkevcyh were arrested on 14 October 2010 over their peaceful picket outside the Prosecutor’s Office in Lviv and sentenced to three days administrative arrest. This turned into four days since the judge failed to take into account the fact that the men had been in custody already for one day.

In November  the Lviv Regional Court of Appeal cancelled the ruling to bring administrative proceedings against Ihor Tanichkevcyh.  This means that the arrest was unlawful, yet the Prosecutor’s response to a letter from the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union states that it sees no violations.
