Court accepts removal of contract killing charge in Gongadze case

The Pechersky District Court in Kyiv has upheld the Prosecutor General’s Office resolution removing the contract killing charge against former police general, Oleksy Pukach with respect to the killing of journalist Georgy Gongadze.

The Pechersky District Court in Kyiv has found lawful the Prosecutor General’s Office resolution terminating the criminal case against former police general, Oleksy Pukach with respect to the charge of a commissioned nature to the killing of journalist Georgy Gongadze.

At its hearing on Monday, the court announced its decision to reject the application brought by Myroslava Gongadze’s lawyer, Valentina Telychenko and victim in the case Oleksy Podolsky. The court deemed that the claimants’ arguments regarding the presence of information about the murder being committed by O. Pukach on commission to be opinion, and  that the investigator who issued the resolution had adhered to the norms of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The ruling may be appealed within seven days.
