Press Conference on the Eve of International Day in Support of Victims of Torture
In 2010 almost 800 thousand people were subjected to unlawful violence by the police and more than 50 died.

A press conference will be held on 23 June 2011 from 13.30 to 14.30 (UNIAN Information Agency, 4 Khreshchatyk) on torture and ill-treatment, and measures for countering them.
Issues for discussion:
- Torture and ill-treatment in Ukraine – a threat to national security;
- Assessment of Ukraine’s fulfilment of international standard on prohibition of torture;
- Analysis of cases of torture in European Court of Human Rights Judgements and their implementation in court rulings and decisions from law enforcement bodies;
- Assessment of the authorities’ activities with respect to prevention of torture;
- Information about specific cases.
