Former Chornobyl clean-up workers are planning to uphold their right to a decent life and say that it is only through indefinite protest actions that they will be able to have impact on the authorities.  This was the message from the Nastup Committee which on Tuesday took part in the first Congress of Chornobyl cleanup workers. The congress was initiated by a number of Ukrainian NGOs:  Chornobyl-86, Prypiat, and the Coordinating Council.  There were around 300 delegates from 14 regions.According to Ruslan Sekeka, head of Nastup, "Only joint, open-ended protests can influence the government, and only this way will we manage to defend our own rights. One-day rallies will produce no results. The government is now only afraid of force, so we should show our strength and power together, "

The congress created an organizing committee on systematizing and ordering legislation linked with Chornobyl, with the first task being to classify all those who suffered as the result of the 1986 Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant Disaster.
