Application to release Lutsenko on health grounds rejected

The ruling comes two days before the second anniversary of Lutsenko’s detention which the European Court of Human Rights has found violated his rights under the European Convention on a number of points.
The Mensk District Court which held a “court hearing” at the Mensk Prison Colony on 24 December has refused to release former Interior Minister Yury Lutsenko on health grounds. The decision was taken by Judge Oleksandr Savchenko and announced today during the travelling court hearing. There will be another on 27 December when the grounds for the ruling will be given.
The ruling comes two days before the second anniversary of Lutsenko’s detention which the European Court of Human Rights has found violated his rights under the European Convention on a number of points.
The defence have 7 days to appeal.
