Four murdered members of a Slovyansk evangelical church laid to rest

22.07.2014
The funeral has taken place of four members, two deacons and the sons of the Pastor of he Slovyansk evangelical Church of the Transformation tortured and killed by Kremlin-backed militants from the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic.

The funeral has taken place of four members, two of them deacons,  of the Slovyansk evangelical Church of the Transformation.  Pastor Petro Dudnik writes that all evangelical churches in the city cancelled their own services to take part in a service to remember the four men, tortured and killed by Kremlin-backed militants from the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic.

The murder victims were the two sons – Ruvim and Albert – of Paster Alexander Pavenko and two deacons of the church Viktor Brodarsky, and Volodymyr Velychko. The two young men were onl 24 and 30.  There are varying explanations of why they were abducted on June 8 – whether because of the help they gave Ukrainian soldiers or an attempt to extort money by the militants.

As reported here, the Russian media resorted to particularly cynical tactics with respect to a story which undoubtedly puts the hostage-taking and hostage-murdering militants in a highly unfavourable light.  It simply turned everything upside down and claimed that  the men had been murdered by the Ukrainian army for helping ‘insurgents’.
